Alessia's expands Italian menu

Dec. 16, 2006 12:00 AM

An Italian restaurant in Mesa soon will expand its offerings, adding dishes as well as a couple of sauces that, while previously available, were not listed on the regular menu.

Alessia's Ristorante Italiano, on the southeastern corner of Brown and Higley roads, will add the items early next year, said Jonathan Carr, who owns the moderately priced restaurant with his wife, Shari.

Carr would not give details about his new dishes because they're still being tested, but said the sauces will be a Bolognese meat sauce and an Alfredo.

Carr said he's evolving the menu with the customer in mind.

"It's very important to us because we have such a regular clientele that we don't want anybody to get too bored," he said. "We have people that will literally come at least once a week, and after a while, they have had everything on the menu."

Alessia's, which opened in 2004, serves appetizers, pasta dishes, gnocchi, risotto and entrees that Shari Carr, the restaurant's chef, makes as they're ordered.

Alessia's pasta dishes include pre-designed items such as spinach ravioli ($15) in a creamy sage and béchamel sauce, or create-your-own pastas that combine one of four pastas - fettuccine, linguine, cappelini or penne - with one of several sauces, including the strangola ($14.50), homemade Italian sausage sautéed with onions, porcini mushrooms and Parmesan cheese.

Entrées include pollo marsala ($15), a chicken breast sautéed with onions and mushrooms in a marsala wine sauce, and Florence steak ($22), a New York steak sautéed with mushrooms in a red wine and white truffle sauce. Both are served with pomobasil pasta or salad.

Details: 5-9:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. 5251 E. Brown Road, Mesa. (480) 396-2888.

Hi,

I just had to take the time and send an email to you.  Just to refresh your memory who I am... I was the one who was also from NY and asked about your website and my friend complimented you on your “industrial strength Lipton Ice TeaJ”...now that you know who I am…

The reason for this email is to commend you on your fine dining restaurant.  The food, presentation and atmosphere were awesome. We live in Northeast Mesa and I plan spreading the word about your restaurant.  My husband and I forward to returning and experiencing many more wonderful dishes on your menu.

Best regards,

Carolelynn
